About

Mean Bean: Origins

It all started with two 22-year-old collegiate goons: Melanie Lech and Alex Bradford Cobb.  We'd been collaborating on funny videos for friends, freelance work for clients, and professional work for Appalachian State University when it occurred to us that we should come up with a name for the credits other than "Melanie Lech and Alex Bradford Cobb."

The decision was made: we would build a brand not only for our video services, but also for our own original content going forward.

We sat down one fateful day in High Point to decide upon a name.  "Party Tardy Productions," you see, wasn't going to cut it forever.  It had been late to the party one too many times.

"We should do something with beans," Melanie said.  Alex, accepting of this suggestion, added that it needed to be an alliteration or rhyme.  "Mean Beans," he suggested.  But wait--let's make it singular, they thought.  "Mean Bean."  Their hearts skipped a beat.

And thus, in the winter months of 2016, "Mean Bean Productions" was born.

Mean Bean Productions official launch was on February 3rd, 2017, and we've been growing ever since.

Covert Ops: The Mission

To revolutionize the way we eat falafel.  To annihilate anyone in our paths.  To create humanity's premiere video production specializing in:

  • the witty,
  • the clever,
  • the edgy,
  • the over-the-top,
  • the perfectionism and ridiculously high standards only your mother-in-law could have with the quirky humor and laugh-out-loud sensibilities your dad thinks he has,
  • the FUNNY.

To sell and entertain!

Mean Bean handles everything: writing, production, editing, and even distribution--all while you sit back, relax, and throw money our way. If you're looking for quality media that will take your business to the next level, look no further. You've found your Magic Beans.

Beedo the Bean

What started as a mere lentil of a sketch flourished into a hearty, full grown bean logo, Beedo.  We even dress him up for the holidays and other occasions!  Against his will.

The Upward Spiral

Now, you may be asking, "Where can I get a funny commercial?"  "I need a funny commercial for my brand!"  "Where can I get an ad like Geico?" "Funny commercial maker!" "Funny commercial ideas!" "Funny commercial script?" "I need a commercial for my business" "Social media advertising" "Dollar shave club commercial" "Branded content" "Branded content makers"

These are all real questions and not just things we plugged in for SEO.  Whatever your needs--we've got you covered.

We've amassed dozens of clients from e-commerce entrepreneurs to small-town artists looking for help with personal branding.  Many of these clients have returned to us for additional media work.  We treat our clients with warmth and professionalism, and we like to think that's what brings them back.

In October of 2017, we made our first short film, submitted an incomplete version to a festival, and received compliments from the judges on our talent despite setbacks.

We also helped write and acted in a 48 Hour Film Project that was selected for Charlotte, NC's Best Of Screening in August of 2017.

Our involvement with Sofar Sounds Charlotte introduced us to awesome musicians and locations and provided us with some neat opportunities to record live performances for artists at varying stages of their careers.

We even have friends at companies as epic as Myriad Media.

And the upward spiral continues.

What's Next?

Our goals for 2018 are:

  1. To create weekly videos ranging from sketch form to behind the scenes looks to web series work,
  2. To fundraise for our next short film,
  3. To secure and satisfy 7 new clients as well as our current clientele, and
  4. To expand our company (hello, interns!).
